Meet Juleigh McDonald
My Story & Philosophy
My path to treating skin professionally first wound through fifteen years as a makeup artist and then five years as a high school English and Spanish teacher. Beauty and education: the twin forces that ultimately led to my career as an esthetician.
As a makeup artist, I already knew the joy of helping people become more aware of their own beauty through thoughtful refinement. But as conversations increasingly turned toward skincare, I noticed a common complaint: people were overwhelmed. They wanted the best for their skin but struggled to navigate the endless products, trends, and conflicting advice. With a teacher's commitment to making the complicated digestible, I found myself searching for the fundamentals that make healthy skin possible.
What emerged was this: meet the skin where it is, be consistent with a customized routine, and prioritize skin health above all else.
From that humble starting place, where the integrity of the skin is paramount and the focus is on personalized care, meaningful improvements become not only possible, but likely.
Skincare is deeply personal to me, as I’m sure it is to you. I battled acne throughout my teens and early twenties, and while my skin is much calmer today, I still deal with occasional breakouts. More than a decade ago, I was also diagnosed with melanoma. Tending to the health of the skin is much more than an exercise in vanity (but that’s okay sometimes too); it is an investment in both our confidence and our well-being.
I've learned that most people aren't looking for perfection. They're looking for presence. Support. Clarity. There’s no shortage of sources for skincare suggestions, but the craving for informed insight from a professional who has assessed your needs and listened to your frustrations—it’s real. It’s both my privilege and a responsibility to be trusted with your skin, and I meet those things with respect, joy, and enthusiasm.
What You Can Expect from Me
I treat "miracles" and "breakthroughs" with a very healthy skepticism.
I don’t believe there is one version of “perfect” skin, nor is there only one path to achieving healthy skin. Marketing that suggests these things are true does a great disservice.
The price of a product is absolutely not the most reliable indicator of formula quality.
That skepticism isn’t disdain for the beauty industry. Quite the opposite. I've spent most of my life fascinated by it.
I have adored makeup ever since I discovered the gilded, ribbed tube of Estée Lauder red lipstick on my mom’s dressing table. I can gladly spend hours comparing serums. I will help you refine your own routine till it thrills you, and some of my own favorite conversations have been with skincare brand founders whose passion for formulating is explosive.
But loving beauty and believing every claim made in its name are two very different things.
Over the years, both in the treatment room and online, I've watched intelligent, thoughtful people become increasingly frustrated. Clients often tell me they feel as though everyone is saying something different, and at a certain point they simply stop knowing whom to trust.
I can’t mute all the skincare noise on social media. I can’t convince brands to stop claiming that the extract from an exotic wild blueberry found deep in the Amazon (only on Tuesdays) is going to banish crow’s feet. I can only control what happens in my little corner of the internet. So here is my promise:
The juleigh.skin Standard
Evidence-Based Care: The skincare world is full of bold claims, exaggerated promises, and marketing designed to make every new ingredient sound essential. My recommendations are guided by the best available evidence, hands-on experience, and a commitment to long-term skin health.
Real Results: You'll never find filtered, edited, or retouched skin on the images I post of myself or clients undergoing treatment. I believe in honest representation, realistic expectations, and celebrating meaningful progress rather than chasing impossible standards. As for product recommendations—if I don’t genuinely think it’s a great formula that’s going to work as intended, I don’t suggest it. Period.
Fully Customized Routines: No two people have the same skin, lifestyle, budget, or priorities. That's why my consultations focus on understanding your existing routine, concerns, and goals before making any recommendations. The result is a practical, personalized plan designed to work for your real life.
Thank you for being here. I hope you find something valuable.
